After drawing for some time I started modelling clay. Drawing in my case has two purposes: one is to clarify the image, the other to help me achieve a structure solid enough to model without interferences. Depending on the material on which I draw and the techniques I employ, the image suffers transformations and I follow those transformations. This happens at every stage. The image is transformed depending on the material one uses. First it is transformed, as I said, in the process of drawing, that is to say that, as I draw, I’m not illustrating an image that’s been haunting me for some time. Rather, a new image appears which, of course, is related to the previous one. This modelling phase, which in my case takes quite a while, is the most gratifying, the most joyful one in sculpture, I’d say.
