The head is severed from the neck, which will reappear in all his works of the ‘70s. The figure has lost its identity, its face is a mask with empty eye-sockets and a lengthened, almost animal neck.
In Procedure the sense of agony can be felt in the torso and the neck. The detailed portrayal of the joints contrasts with the body which is “hanged” horizontally. The limbs link to an angular structure that functions as a retaining box and dispels any references to corruptibility as an anticipation of death. Only colour announces it.
