As a commemoration of the birth of Antonio Berni (1905-1981) we offer a broad panorama of his life and his production. Through a thematic study, a chronology and several reproductions and documentary images, we travel across the work of this remarkable creator, one of the most outstanding artists in Argentina and Latin America.

Popular scenes

From neighborhood football teams groupings, religious celebrations, music and popular cults, communal gatherings for feasts, belief matters or sports were in the work of Berni a fine pretext to study closely not only the circumstances of the humblest classes, but also to appreciate and include into great art events exalting life and hope. Close to his own past as a small village kid –part of his childhood took place at his maternal grandparents’ small farmstead in a country town, Roldán–, Berni recalls in these scenes a way of being that seems to have remained only in remembrance and nostalgia, but still pounds in many places afar from the rumble of big cities, where life maintains yet a human scale.
