Ramona Montiel is a character that, even though it was announced beforehand, developed as from 1962. Berni made collages and engravings around this young girl of humble origin who, after venturing into socially accepted occupations, found her livelihood in prostitution. All the aspects of Ramona's history were portrayed from a beginning: her childhood, her parents, her poor environment, her initiation in carnal commerce, her brutally presented sexuality, the prejudices and social vices that were lurking her –metaphorically expressed through monstrous figures–, her customers and protectors. Next Ramona would lose certain caricature features present in Berni’s initial assemblings and xilocollages and, in a few years, she would reassume the ones of the voluptuous, and to some extent innocent, beauty of the bride in La boda, a work executed in 1959 and later rebaptized by the artist as El casamiento de Ramona.
