from them, in their exterior wrappings, in the power they have to suspend distinctions between the imaginary and the real, individual memory and common history, between the modern and the contemporary.
Since he received the Guggenheim Fellowship in 1991, Gómez has worked in bronze, a technique that has forced him to learn its secrets and overcome material problems, as there are very few specialised foundries in Argentina. Gómez recognises that the finish of each piece has been a challenge, as many steps of the process need to be entrusted to craftsmen who work under commercial pressures and do not always interpret the demands of the artist properly. With time he has come to an understanding with some foundry workers, who give him special treatment and pay special attention to his artistic and expressive requirements.
The body of his work receives the Cincuentenario de la Asociación Argentina de Críticos de Arte Prize.
