Argentine Informalism incorporated processes which went against the “good taste” of the local practices. Based on the existential poetry of the time, through spontaneous gestures and the use of discarded material, it violated the limits of the traditional artistic genre and opened the road to the concept of the object, the installations and the art of action.

Towas. Pinturación
Towas
Pinturación 1957

In September 1958, Towas (Tomás Monteleone, Aimogasta, La Rioja province, 1931) exhibited individually at the Galatea Gallery. His work, which already announced its adhesion to the Informalist practices, was based on huge spots that denoted the speed of the stroke when dragging the paint on the canvas. The pieces exhibited together with the Informalist Movement, were based on the purely gestural element, developing a language based on the great traces that he obtained when quickly dragging the paint over the canvas. In this way, the colors mixed in randomly.
