This dossier covers forty years of Norberto Gómez’s work, from his minimalist constructions of 1966 and 1967 to the anti-monuments he produced in polyester and bronze in the nineties. In between, his series of “guts”, organic remains, weapons and “plasters” punctuate a long career that has enriched the Argentine art scene.

En la Fawbush Gallery
The showroom at the Fawbrush Gallery

The Ruth Benzacar gallery takes his series of guts, skeletons and weapons to the Madrid International Fair of Contemporary Art (ARCO, in its Spanish acronym).
In December, the same gallery curates a one-man exhibition of Gómez’s work at the Fawbush Gallery in New York, where the weapons are shown, as well as Wires, Crutch and the small 1979 funerary monument. On this occasion, Gómez travels to the United States for the first time in order to help put together the show, which is part of the an event called “Art from the Americas: the Argentine project”, organised by the Ruth Benzacar gallery in association with American galleries. The goal was to obtain international recognition for Argentine art; the initiative also promoted the work of Luis F. Benedit, Jacques Bedel and Víctor Grippo, and almost a hundred works were shown at different galleries in SoHo.
Gómez is awarded a Guggenheim fellowship.
His 1979 polyester piece, acquired by the Antorchas Foundation, takes part in Arte argentino contemporáneo
