Around this time Berni began a plentiful series of drawings, water colors and temperas with sights of Buenos Aires’ poorest neighborhoods, such as La Boca, Barracas, Dock Sud, Isla Maciel, etc. These sketches of simple, precarious constructions would make the prelude to numerous paintings devoted to suburban landscapes and shantytowns.
