The docks and warehouses of Las Catalinas are built, and the national government encourages the creation of a new port in Buenos Aires with ample infrastructure. Among the projects presented we find that of Eduardo Madero and Luis Huergo. Eduardo Madero won the bid. The work for the new port starts on April 1, 1887, and ends on March 31, 1899. From then on, Puerto Madero sets off to become the center of the city –expanding towards the north– and leaving the southern suburbs relegated, especially where utility installations and services were concerned.
