Carlos Zuberbühler is appointed director of the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes (MNBA), succeeding Eduardo Schiaffino who founded this institution in 1895.
The Centenary Exhibition shows 2311 works of art, representing 18 countries, among them 263 from Argentina. The Spaniard, Anglada Camarassa obtains the Grand Prix d'Honneur. Among the Argentines, Quirós and Ripamonte win the main prizes.
The following year, the Salón Nacional is created and the first winner is Antonio Alice with his Picture of Mrs. A. B. P. The sculpture prizes are not awarded.
