This page offers a panorama of Argentine visual art during the 20 th Century. It comprises a brief overview across the period through twelve paradigmatic works, a chronology which shows the main artistic events of the period and a scheme presenting the various groups and trends supported by illustrations.

The Grupo de los Trece (Group of Thirteen) is created in Buenos Aires (Benedit, Grippo, Portillos, Bedel, Glusberg, Marotta, Romero, Dujovny, Ginzburg, González Mir, Pazos, Teich and Zabala).
The Museo de Arte Moderno (MAM) presents Arte de sistemas, with Jorge Glusberg as curator. Important conceptual artists take part of the exhibition. From the local milieu: Grupo de los Trece, Lamelas, Lublin, Renzi, Vigo, etc. From the international scene Acconci, Arakawa, Boltanski, Christo, Gilbert & George, Haacke, Kaprow, On Kawara, Kosuth, Long, Merz, Oppenheim, Venet, etc.
Aldo Paparella begins his series of Useless Monuments. A year later he writes his manifesto, Proposición: la neoescultura en mi tiempo, in which he affirms that creative spirituality is superior to the materialism of the consumer society.
