This page offers a panorama of Argentine visual art during the 20 th Century. It comprises a brief overview across the period through twelve paradigmatic works, a chronology which shows the main artistic events of the period and a scheme presenting the various groups and trends supported by illustrations.

Raquel Forner, wins the First Prize at the Salón Nacional with a work from the series El Drama, begun on the occasion of World War II. The previous year, Miguel Carlos Victorica wins the Grand Prix in the same contest with Cocina Bohemia and, in 1943, Berni wins the same award with the portrait of Lily.
The San Francisco Museum (USA) organises a travelling exhibition of Pettoruti's works and acquired El Quinteto.
The New York Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) acquires Desolación (from El Drama Series) by Forner. The following year, acquires Club Atlético Nueva Chicago by Berni.
