This page offers a panorama of Argentine visual art during the 20 th Century. It comprises a brief overview across the period through twelve paradigmatic works, a chronology which shows the main artistic events of the period and a scheme presenting the various groups and trends supported by illustrations.

Along with Neo-Expressionist lines, Eduardo and Héctor Médici, Nora Dobarro, Lecuona and López Armentía create the Grupo Babel. Fazzolari, Doffo, Víctor Quiroga, Duilio Pierri, Pino, Pietra, Pirozzi, Diana Aisenberg, Racciatti, Bianchedi, Conte, Frangella, Garófalo, Iniesta, Levis, Zemborian and Okner all work along the same lines. Also, since 1976, Marcia Schvartz paints characters from popular or marginal contexts, viewed with a sharp, stark and challenging eye.
Liliana Maresca and Daniel Riga organise the multimedia exhibition, La Kermesse, El paraíso de las bestias at the Centro Cultural Ciudad de Buenos Aires (at present Recoleta).
Roberto Elía wins the Guggenheim fellowship. In New York, he researchs hopscotch, the central motif of many of his future works.
