The dossier on Juan Carlos Distéfano spans from the time of his beginnings
as a painter to his recent works as a sculptor, a first for the CVAA. It covers
over forty years of his work and his commitment to art and reality. A special section offers a view on his work as a graphic designer, which he carried out mostly at the Di Tella Institute.

In October, he participates in the show Escultura II (Sculpture ll) at the Del Retiro gallery, sequel of the one held the year before in Buen Ayre. His work is presented together with those of Jacques Bedel, Noemí Gerstein, Norberto Gómez, María Juana Heras Velasco, Alberto Heredia, Enio Iommi, Vicente Marotta, Marta Minujín, Lucía Pacenza, Aldo Paparella, Alfredo Portillos, Eduardo Sabelli, and Luis Alberto Wells.
On 20 November, in a ceremony in the Teatro Colón, he receives the Premio Konex de Platino a la Escultura Figurativa.
Accompanied by Griselda Gambaro, who had obtained the Guggenhein scholarship, he moves to New York. From there, they go to Mexico and travel around the Yucatan peninsula. It revives in Distéfano a great admiration for the monuments and pre-Columbian art, accentuated by the revelations provided by his visit to the Museo Antropológico de México. This contact will resume these references in his work.
