The dossier on Juan Carlos Distéfano spans from the time of his beginnings
as a painter to his recent works as a sculptor, a first for the CVAA. It covers
over forty years of his work and his commitment to art and reality. A special section offers a view on his work as a graphic designer, which he carried out mostly at the Di Tella Institute.

Catálogo galería Del Retiro
Catalogue cover of Juan Carlos Distéfano’s exhibition, Del Retiro gallery, 1987

With prologue by Nelly Schnait, Distéfano presents sculptures and drawings in Del Retiro gallery, Buenos Aires, between 8 September 3 October. Among the exhibited works are Watching Them Go by (1980), Give and take, Antipodal Lovers (tribute to Enrique Molina) and Adam, the three of them from 1982. He also shows The Narrow Gate (1983), Figure with Thistles and Thistle-Riddled (1984), Up to a Point I and II (1985), Diagonally I and II (1986), On her knees I and II and Floater I (1987). Among the drawings are Icarus (1977, silverpoint), Self-portrait, (Barcelona, 1978), Jump (obverse and reverse, 1979), The river at Sunset (1979), Watching Them Go by (1980), Figure with Thistles (1984) and Up to a Point (1985) made with sanguine, silverpoint and acrylic paint. To this technical combination, he adds watercolour to accentuate the colour in Adam (1982). Indian ink becomes present in The Narrow Gate (1983) and Floater (1987) in which it is very interesting to see the creative sketch of the artist who, after conceiving an image, experiences the need of his apprehension through the lineal design,
