His works Spider’s Web II and Direct Action are selected to take part in a major exhibition of Latin American art: Heterotopías. Medio siglo sin lugar: 1918 – 1968 (Heterotopias. Half a century without place), curated by Mari Carmen Ramírez and Héctor Olea. It takes place at the Museo Nacional Centro Reina Sofía, Madrid, Spain between 12 December 2000 and 27 January 2001. Because of its subject matter, Distéfano’s work is placed in the Constelación Impugnadora (Contesting constellation), alongside works by Carlos Raquel Rivera, Débora Arango, El Techo de la Ballena, Antonio Berni, Rubén Santantonín, Jorge de la Vega, Luis Felipe Noé, Alberto Heredia, León Ferrari and Beatriz González. The other conceptual “constellations” or themes around which the show was organised included works by David Alfaro Siqueiros, José Clemente Orozco, Torres-García, Rafael Barradas, Xul Solar, Vicente Do Rego Monteiro, Lucio Fontana, Armando Reverón, Carmelo Arden Quin, Rod Rorthfuss, Gyula Kosice, Enio Iommi, Sergio Camargo, Alejandro Otero, Geraldo de Barros, Carlos Cruz-Diez, Jesús Rafael Soto, Gego, Abraham Palatnik, Alberto Greco, Antonio Días, Helio Oiticica, Lygia Clark, Luis Fernando Benedit, Oscar Bony, Roberto Jacoby, Ricardo Carreira, Eduardo Costa, Luis Camnitzer, Cildo Meireles, and others.
