Carmelo Arden Quin and Aldo Pellegrini create the Asociación Arte Nuevo, formed by independent abstract artists. Martha Boto, Martín Blaszko, Noemí Gerstein, Juan Melé, Gregorio Vardánega, Aldo Paparella, Martha Peluffo, Carlos Silva, Luis Tomasello, Virgilio Villalba, Eduardo Mac Entyre and Miguel Angel Vidal, among others, participate in the association. In 1958, Kenneth Kemble exhibits an informalist collage in the salon held by this institution.
Art critic Jorge Romero Brest is appointed auditor of the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes. He is confirmed as director in 1958, holding the position until 1963.
