This page offers a panorama of Argentine visual art during the 20 th Century. It comprises a brief overview across the period through twelve paradigmatic works, a chronology which shows the main artistic events of the period and a scheme presenting the various groups and trends supported by illustrations.

The Informalist Movement, comprising Kemble, Greco, Barilari, Olga López, F. Maza, Pucciarelli, Towas and Wells, exhibits at Galería Van Riel and at the Museo de Arte Moderno in Buenos Aires (MAM). Photographer Jorge Roiger takes part in the latter.
The Espartaco Group, devoted to the painting of social themes, appears. The group includes Ricardo Carpani, Juana Elena Diz, Mario Mollari, Juan Manuel Sánchez, Carlos Sessano and Espirilio Bute.
In 1960, in Paris, Julio Le Parc joins the GRAV (Groupe de Recherche d'Art Visuel) devoted to kinetic art.
That year, the MAM, created in 1956 by Rafael Squirru, opened its new home in the San Martín Theatre with the First International Exhibition of Modern Art (297 artists from 15 countries). Also, the Ver y Estimar Prize is held for the first time.
