scratch itself. Every element is a sign of poverty, of the struggle to overcome it and to realize a dream, expressed in a melancholy manner in the figure’s eyes. The gaudy colours in which the figure is painted reflects the peculiar polychromy of the neighbourhood; both on the child’s body and on the other objects, the colours are well defined by the lines left from the casting of the work, leaving a bumpy texture at the joints, which are normally polished away, but which here contribute to accentuate elements of rusticity.
Among his projected works, Distéfano is preparing another homage to Argentina painting, this time as a tribute to Ramón Gómez Cornet, starting from a figure of his work La urpila (The little dove), from the collection of the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes.
