On 18 December 2002, along with Griselda Gambaro and a group of renowned intellectuals, he places a notice in the newspaper Página 12, defending the Venezuelan people and their elected president, Hugo Chávez Frías, from the attempt to undermine the government by media lobbies and other sectors of Venezuelan society who opposed that popular regime.
